Police say the man registered at reception giving the name Emilio Rodrigues da Silva and a hometown of Bauru. Hotel security cameras captured the criminal's actions from the time he checked in until he left the hotel a short time later.

After registering and being issued a room key the man went upstairs as if going to his room. After arriving on the upper floors where the guestrooms are located, he began knocking on doors. If somebody answered, he made an excuse and went to try another door.

He used a “key punch” to open at least five guestrooms. In one room, he stole a laptop which he hid in his backpack. After about 10 minutes of work, the bandit went downstairs where he waited for the front desk clerk to leave his post. He left his key on the counter and strolled casually out of the hotel.

Police estimate losses at about U.S. $1,200.

The images will help identify the thief, who faces robbery charges. The penalty is up to eight years in prison.
