Police Seize Dynamite for ATM Robberies

SAO PAULO – Police on Friday seized 11 sticks of dynamite found in an abandoned Fiat Strada in suburban São Paulo. The agents located the explosives after an anonymous tip. According to the police, the informant said that the dynamite was to be used in an ATM robbery, reported O Dia online.

The police went to an address on Azevedo Soares Street in downtown Franco da Rocha where they found the vehicle parked and with the doors open. Police staked out the car waiting for the bandits to return, but no one came.

When police searched the car, they found the explosives on the back seat. The vehicle license plates, from São Bernardo do Campo, had not been reported stolen but the car identification numbers had been removed from the chassis.

It is unclear wether this case is related to the arrests Thursday night and Friday morning of 11 ATM bandits in the region of São Sebastião on the São Paulo coast.
