Federal Police Incinerate Tons of Marijuana

Other drugs also destroyed in power plant furnace

CAMPO GRANDE, Mato Grosso do Sul – Federal Police (PF) in this Southern Brazilian state incinerated 4.2 tons of marijuana and other drugs in a power plant furnace this morning. One kilo of cocaine and 18 kilos of hashish were also destroyed at the plant in the municipality of Navirai, 223 miles from the state capital.

The contraband drugs, which police said was seized in the region surrounding the town, took about an hour to burn. The operation took place in the industrial furnace of the power plant in Ponta Pora.

Twelve PF agents, public prosecutors, and agents of the public Health Surveillance participated. In April, federal agents burned 8.1 tons of drugs, including 57 kilos of cocaine. This is the fifth mass-incineration of drugs at the site this year.
