Two Italians and two Cubans Arrested in Iguassu Falls

CURITIBA, Parana – The Federal Police (PF) announced today the arrest of four foreigners over the weekend in Iguassu Falls. The travelers were caught in the act of using false passports at the Friendship Bridge international crossing to Paraguay, along Brazil's Southwestern boarder.

Fake passports seized from travelers at the Friendship Bridge in Iguassu Falls

On Saturday morning, two Italians, 61 and 45-years-old, presented false documents while attempting to leave Brazil and cross into Paraguay. According to PF, the documents the pair presented to immigration officers showed that they would have entered Brazil in Brasilia and traveled to various cities before arriving at the international crossing, where they intended to visit Paraguay and Argentina. The immigration officers became suspicious when, during a computerized query, they could find no records of the two entering the country.

On Sunday, also at the Friendship Bridge, a married Cuban couple, both 42-years-old, who live in Paraguay, presented false passports in an attempt to enter Brazil. The Cubans told police that they obtained the passports in Peru and intended to use them to travel to the United States.

The four were booked into jail in Federal custody where they will be made available to answer in Federal Court. They face between two and six years imprisonment.
