| SAO PAULO – For twenty-two years Brazilian fans of the wildly popular animated TV sitcom “The Simpsons” have wondered about the beer that the show's patriarch Homer guzzles by the bucketful. The wait ends this week as Duff beer, served in Moe's Tavern since 1989, debuts in Brazil.

Brazilian Duff Beer has no official connection to the animated show by Matt Groening, who never wanted the famous drink to become a real product, fearing that it might entice children to drink. In 2006, however, the Mexican entrepreneur, and Simpsons fan, Rodrigo Contreras turned Homer's favorite beverage into real product, copying the iconic brand's name and logo.

Ever since then, he has exported it to Europe, Colombia and Chile. Now, Duff is coming to Brazil by way of its Colombian distributor Gustavo Mejia. “It has sold out in Colombia for seven years and, since then, Fox (which owns the rights to the image and design) never did anything. We don't link the beer with “The Simpsons” in any way,” Conrado Kaczynski, of Duff Brazil, told G1 Sao Paulo.

He said that the main objective of the brand is to encouraging consumers not to try it only one time. “We know that the appeal is very interesting, but it isn't just a beer for the connoisseur. Our concern is with the second sale,” he told G1.
