Crash Seriously Injures Miss Brazil 2010

| VITORIA, Brazil – An accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Guarapari, Espirito Santo, leaving Debora Moura Lyra, Miss Brazil 2010 seriously injured. The head-on crash happened during foul weather in Guarapari, on the BR-101 highway, about 50 km (31 miles) from the state capital, Vitoria.

According to the Federal Highway Patrol (PRF), she was driving a Volkswagen Gol when she lost control on a curve, crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head on with a Toyota Bandeirante (Landcruiser). Police theorize that heavy rainfall recorded in the area at the time contributed to the accident.

Riding inside the Gol with Debora, were Hermon Souza Lopes, 22, Caroline Carone, 21, who had serious injuries, and Maria Auxiliadora Miguel de Souza, 55, who succumbed to her injuries and died.

The driver of the Toyota, Roberto Lessa, 24, and passenger Julia Brasil Lessa Vasconcellos, 26, had serious injuries and were taken to area hospitals.
