Federal agents approached the suspect when he tried to board a flight to the city of Malaga, Spain. The PF were suspicious of the individual because of his nervous demeanor, which lead them to use the Body Scan machine which clearly showed the capsules inside the man's body.

Police then took the man to a city hospital where the Paraguayan underwent an MRI scan which confirmed the presence of approximately 60 capsules in his stomach. Under interrogation, the suspect admitted to swallowing the capsules in Ciudad del Este (Paraguay). The PF estimate that the total weight of the drug at 1.5 kg (about 53 ounces).
