According to police, the 33-year-old victim was at home in the Algodoal neighborhood, in the company of his mother, 61, and wife, 38, when two masked gunmen entered the house asking for him.

The gunmen grabbed the two women and forced them to lead the way to the victim, who was in another room. Once there, they shot the victim 11 times and fled. The women were unhurt.

The inmate was rescued by paramedics who took him to the hospital in Piracicaba, for emergency medical care. After undergoing surgery to remove the bullets, the victim was in stable condition. Hospital staff say there has been no police presence at the hospital and they fear for their own security.

No motive for the shooting was reported.
