| SAO PAULO – A woman in Sao Manuel is accusing a veterinarian of animal abuse for using Super Glue to immobilize her pooch's fractured leg. The vet says that the practice is common and that the animal's owner consented to the treatment. Now, the owner says, the 4-month old poodle is at risk of having the limb amputated.

The housewife filed a complaint with the police in the small town, in the interior of the state, 259 km (161 miles) from the capital. She also claims in the complaint that the vet overcharged her for the glue.
“I took little Radija to the pet shop where I spoke to the veterinarian at the counter. He said the it was a fracture and had to be immobilized. He took a tube of Super Glue and used it to glue the fractured paw” the dog's owner told Géro Bonini, reporting special to terra.com.br.
“The other vet could only laugh when he saw what was done. He told me that this was not the correct treatment and we should remove all of the glue, get an X-ray and medicate the puppy,” she said.
The puppy got part of his body stuck with the glue and it burned him too – and the skin sloughed off. The owner filed a police report alleging mistreatment against the veterinarian, and the Sao Manuel police opened on investigation into the complaint.
The veterinarian responsible for using glue on the dog said it is common procedure among vets and that he didn't commit any crime. “I've done this treatment many times. I graduated from vet school more than 30 years ago. I've used this treatment on goats, birds and turtles. It is common for fractures,” he said.
He certainly didn't agree with the claim of abuse. “Maltreatment? For me, it's just the opposite. I was taking care of the animal, but the case was passed to another vet, who assumed responsibilities,” he said.
