Syria-Bound Cocaine Shipment Foiled

| CURITIBA, Brazil – A 23-year-old Venezuelan woman was arrested at Foz do Iguaçu International Airport carrying over 4 kg of cocaine. The arrest was made late Sunday afternoon by Federal Police (PF) as the woman tried to board a flight to Sao Paulo and on to Syria.

According to the PF, the woman's suspicious demeanor aroused their suspicions. When they searched her, they found the drugs, packaged in plastic bags and bound to her legs, abdomen and back with duct tape.

The woman told police that she bought the drugs in Paraguay. After landing in Sao Paulo, she was going to board a flight to Syria, carrying the cocaine with her.

She was arrested and taken to the Federal Police in Foz de Iguaçu. The Venezuelan will be charged with international drug trafficking and, if convicted, faces 5 to fifteen years imprisonment.
