The arrest came as the result of an ongoing investigation into an agency specializing in forged documents which is based in the southern Brazilian state of Parana and operating throughout the country. So far, DEATUR believes that more than 100 people have used the services of the agency.

The investigation is being conducted jointly by the Civil Police of Sao Paulo, the District Attorney of Parana, the Civil Police of Parana and the Department of Diplomatic Security (DSS) of the U.S. Consulate. The investigation began in 2010 and has led to seven other arrests.
