The action began in the ABC region of Sao Paulo. At least five suspects with stolen cars were spotted by police, who gave chase. The suspects, frightened, fled towards Santos on the Immigrants Highway. Unfortunately for them, and good for police, one of the stolen vehicles had a satellite monitoring system, which aided the police in their pursuit.

Able to tell the route the thieves were taking, the Highway Patrol setup barricades in the roadway. Undeterred, the thieves ran the barricades, entering the village Vila Natal, in Cubatao. Three of them escaped while two others were surrounded and exchanged gunfire with police. One was shot in the head and the other was wounded in the leg.

Despite the injuries, the bandits managed to get around the cops and steered their stolen vehicle onto the Padre Manoel da Nóbrega Highway. Eventually, the driver lost control of the vehicle and smashed into two other vehicles that were on the roadway, injuring one of the occupants, requiring hospitalization.

After the accident, the duo continued to flee on foot. With no place to hide, they decided to hike into the bush and walked about a kilometer before realizing they were lost. Injured, scared and not knowing what to do, the bandits took an unusual approach - they called the fire department, begging for help.

After nearly two hours searching, the rescue team of firefighters managed to find the suspects in the woods. They were arrested and sent to the emergency room in Cubatao to have the wounds tended. The pair face a host of charges, in addition to auto theft.
