Air Force Strikes Deep in Amazon

| MANAUS, Brazil – Two A-29 Super Tucano fighters from the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) attacked, on Saturday (12), a clandestine runway 218 km from Boa Vista, capital of Roraima state. The Air Force dropped general purpose 230 kg aerial bombs on the site, located deep in the Amazon near the Venezuelan border, cratering the airstrip with holes 10 meters across and three meters deep, according to online media reports.

Brazil's Homegrown Exocet MM40 Missile

| RIO DE JANEIRO - The Brazilian Navy has successfully carried out a firing trial of an Exocet MM40 missile, equipped with a motor developed, produced and certified by Avibras in partnership with MBDA. This is the first time that the Brazilian Navy has carried out such a test which represents the country’s autonomy in obtaining anti-ship missile motors which, in the future, could also be used on other kinds of missile, both national and foreign. The test was carried out in the open ocean from the Brazilian Navy corvette Barroso.

Pregnant Woman Jailed over Child Support

| SAO PAULO – On Monday, police in São Paulo arrested a 20-year-old, nine-months pregnant woman for failure to pay child support to her ex-husband. Jailers released her on Tuesday after her family settled the $300 debt with the father of her 3-year-old daughter, who has custody of the child, reported Brazilian online media.
